From 18th until 21st of November we visited the Institute of Biomechanics at Graz University of Technology led by Prof. Gerhard A. Holzapfel. The PhD student David Böhringer within the EFI project “TissueBiomech” hast started to test collagen-based hydrogels under multiple loading conditions using the triaxial testing device in Graz. We are excited to see how the mechanical response of the ‘artificial’ hydrogels compares with the response of human brain tissue, which we have previously tested within our fruitful collaboration with Prof. Holzapfel and his group.

Many thanks to Gerhard for hosting us and for the great discussions! It was also a great opportunity to meet with two other outstanding researchers in the field, Prof. Ray W. Ogden and Prof. David Nordsletten, who were currently visiting Graz.
